History, Background and Overview
Nearly 15 years in the making, and nearly 40 years after the original Harbor Bay Club opened, it’s time for a bigger, better, state-of-the-art new facility. Developed with the needs of members as first priority, exciting plans promise to preserve the Club’s commitment to serving its members and the community for generations to come.
Demand to build a new club that is more in line with the requirements of its members has been well documented since 2002. In 1976, the Harbor Bay Club was designed strictly as a racquet club offering 20 tennis courts, NO fitness center, NO group exercise studios, NO spa and NO youth programs. The club has made many changes over the years to adapt to the needs of its members — but always confined by the physical limitations of its property.
Today, 39 years later, less than 20% of the club’s members play tennis. With continued demand toward more fitness, aquatics and family-oriented programming, the collective needs of the members are out of step with the club’s outdated facilities and have outgrown the club’s physical capacity. Given the scope of many needed improvements – three swimming pools, triple the space for fitness and youth programming, an enhanced tennis experience and more parking – as well as the need to build in room for growth to help maintain a healthy membership level, a brand new club built from the ground up at a new location is the only viable option.
Building Harbor Bay Club’s new home on nearby North Loop Road while keeping the current club operating provides the best of both worlds: a world-class facility designed for the present and future needs of its members and no interruption in service.
